The Fringe Festival is organised by a passionate group of volunteers from the community around the founder - Emily Kund. Each event has their own group of local volunteers who handle organisational things, answer speaker queries and pull the strings behind the scenes.
The Organisers
Emily Kund
Emily's spark for the Tableau community was ingnited in 2013 after the Tableau Conference in DC. After that conference, she ran back to the office and declared that charts don't have to be boring...they can be beautiful and informative!
In 2015, after she and Paul Banoub did not get accepted to speak at TC15, she founded the Tableau Fringe Festival (naming credit: Jonathan Drummey), as a way for Tableau community members to share their message, to help increase visibility, and as a way to enter the speaking arena with support of fellow Tableau community members. Emily's experience with Tableau has ranged from using Tableau Public for personal projects, leading a team of analysts, facilitating data visualization and Tableau training, co-organizing TUGs, and co-hosting the Tableau Wannabe Podcast. |
Alex Waleczek
Alex was first introduced to Tableau and the world of data visualisation in 2015. Since then, he started using Tableau not only for work but also recreational purposes and was introduced to the huge online community who does the same.
After his talk at the 2017 TFFAPAC, he offered to help with some of the aspects of the event and got more involved over time. These days he helps coordinating volunteers for the different events, keeping the event preparation on track and lends a helping hand wherever necessary. "The great thing about the Tableau Fringe Festival is the low barrier to entry. Everybody, independently of location, funding and influence can get a platform to talk about their passion." |
LATAM
David Pires
The inaugural Iron Viz winner in Europe, a Tableau Ambassador and overall curious individual. David Pires has been using Tableau since 2015. David is a Practice Lead for InterWorks UK and Co-lead of the Tableau London User Group.
"TFF like User Groups is the best way of giving back to the community, sharing tips from lots of talented individuals and making the learning curve for those starting out that much easier. Being virtual TFF allows us to connect Tableau users from Australia to Peru, from Argentina to Japan and any country in between." |
Jade Le Van
Jade is a Product Consultant in Tableau's Paris office. She started in 2015 as a Data Artist on the Tableau Public team and is known for having presented Tableau Public to journalist audiences in four different languages including Spanish and Mandarin Chinese. She recently moved to presales to help customers spice up their business dashboards. Outside of work, Jade co-organizes the Paris Data + Women Meetup, a community helping women in data grow their skills, network and career.
I love that TFF is expanding its reach to cover not only the US and EMEA, but also APAC and LATAM. Getting involved is a great opportunity to give back to the community, to meet new people, and to help those that are getting started with Tableau all over the world. |
Nisa Marques
Nisa is an Analyst Consultant at InterWorks. She is originally from Madeira, Portugal. The island of wicker toboggans and rugged high hills! Although she grew up in Madeira, it was in Porto that she studied dentistry. She moved to the UK in 2005 to continue her career in clinical practice. After years in the industry, she decided that she wanted to do more and returned to Uni to study Public Health, where she discovered a love for data and data analysis. Since then she hasn’t looked back!!
"An initiative organized by the community for the community!!! This is what drives me to be involved and volunteer for TFF. Since I started my Tableau journey I have learned a great deal by not only attending the TFF but also by participating and now as part of the organisation. It is a great opportunity to learn from others whilst having fun and feeling part of this incredibly generous group. It is a continuous learning process and it isn't just Tableau we learn!! The variety of personal journey stories and advice we get from people from different parts of the globe and from diverse backgrounds is just amazing and I couldn't be happier or more proud to be part of TFFLATAM with content being delivered in Spanish and Portuguese." |
